Management Coaching

We are excited to officially launch our services around management coaching. Our team at Rooted Edge regularly advises, collaborates with, and acts as a listening ear for the nonprofit leaders managers we work with, and we are excited to now officially offer management coaching as a service at Rooted Edge. We can work with you to craft the coaching project which would work best for you or your team, but our general approach to coaching will involve the 5 themes listed in our introduction (scroll up!) and borrow from our training session content as appropriate. Our coaching generally takes this approach:

  • Initial observation/ intake/ early coaching phase: This phase would likely include taking time early on to see the manager in action during key management interactions, meet with staff for feedback, do an intake form, and get started on some early coaching with the manager around immediate challenges/ pain points.

  • Report back and propose priorities for working together going forward: We propose to the manager and other relevant staff our findings, what challenges we propose working on together, and what that will generally look like.

  • Ongoing coaching: After we’re aligned on a set of clear aims and priorities for the areas we’re working on together, we would start meeting regularly to be a listening ear, to observe again where needed, give continued constructive feedback around key challenges. (Examples of challenges could include: how to manage multiple people; giving feedback; how to delegate more effectively; how to make individual and group meetings more engaging and effective; team building; building an inclusive, equitable, and positive setting, time management and planning; and more!)

    • In addition to the regular coaching meetings, this phase of the work could include: creating tools such as planning templates, sample agendas; values statements to help support the manager; skills trainings to help hone skills; discussions topics around recent management topics and articles to learn from different perspectives in the field; and creating values statements to further hone in the kind of manager/ managers we aspire to be.

We would love to hear from you, hear more about your organization, the particular challenges you and your management team struggle with, and come up with the project and approach that will work best for you. Please email us Sarah at the email below or fill out our interest form. We’re happy to answer questions about how the costs work and arrange a phone or zoom chat to explore how working together might look. We’d love to hear from you!

Whether you are attending one of our training sessions or utilizing our coaching services, our emphasis and approach to management focuses on these themes:

  • Ensuring an equitable and inclusive setting in all areas of management

  • Goal-oriented setting, ambitious but realistic. Emphasis on planning and prioritizing.

“My favorite thing about last week's training was going over how to set up your staff for success by asking them questions like, 'this week would be successful if...' I tried it on my last check in, and it really helped them figure out what to prioritize.
